Solid Red Oak Flooring Weave In and Install – Neptune Beach, FL

Stained and finished Red Oak flooringThis Dan’s Floor Store project took place in Neptune Beach, Florida. We needed to weave into existing Red Oak wood flooring and continue installing this Red Oak flooring throughout a room addition to a home. Our client also wanted their flooring to be stained darker.

The existing wood flooring in the home was 2 1/4″ wide solid Red Oak by Armstrong – Bruce Natural Choice in Gunstock. Fortunately, this solid wood flooring product was still active, so we could use the same exact wood flooring for our project. This helped our crew make the several areas where we needed to weave in repair turn out flawless!

We leveled the concrete slab subfloor before we could start the weave in or installing the Red Oak flooring in the room addition.

The room addition slab needed a massive amount of leveler applied because it fell off towards the back end of the room by nearly an inch!

After our crew leveled the subfloor in the room addition, we used Bostik MVP to seal the concrete.

The slab for the room addition wasn’t 100% cured even though it had been poured four months prior to our arrival. After applying the MVP we used Bostik GREENFORCE adhesive. GREENFORCE is a no VOC moisture abatement adhesive. This gives us a double moisture barrier to ascertain no moisture will be wicking up into the new wood flooring we are installing.

Next came the Red Oak flooring installation.

Once the wood flooring installation was complete our crew started sanding the floor back down to bare wood so we could stain it.

We need to angle cut the floor when sanding to get a flat flooring surface. To ensure NO sanding marks on the floor when refinishing, our crew takes wood flooring through all of our sanding processes: edging, big machine work (our Lagler Hummel belt sander), hand scraping, palm sanding and buffing! Then we used our pump sprayer to “pop” the grain of the wood flooring, to create a deeper, darker color with the stain. To get the look our client wanted, our crew applied a combination of Bona stains, Cocoa and Bark, at a ratio of 60% Bark to 40% Cocoa. The majority of the stain was buffed in with our buffer and a conditioning pad.

The next day we topped the floor off with two coats of a super durable waterborne polyurethane.

The first coat was a sealer coat; we used Pall-X Color by Pallmann. Then our crew stacked a coat of Pall-X Power Ultra Matte, also by Pallmann over the top of sealer (Pall-X Color).

Our customer was 100% thrilled with the outcome of this project! And Dan’s Floor Store always likes to have happy clients!

White Oak Wood Floor Refinished with a Custom Stain on Anastasia Island

Dan’s Floor Store refinishes old wood floors to look like new, or as a part of achieving a different look in a room, or both.

A client wanted their 2 1/4″ wide solid White Oak wood floor refinished with a custom stain to achieve a different look in their home on Anastasia Island in St. Augustine, Florida.

We started this project by sanding the wood flooring.

Details are important in achieving good results. When Dan’s Floor Store refinishes a wood floor we perform a step called “pulling the ends” of the wood plank floors. For this step, we hand scrape the edges of the floor where the edger sanded, to achieve a full fresh surface for the wood flooring.

To achieve the look the client wanted for their wood floor, we rubbed the floor with water to “pop” (open up) the wood grain. Popping the wood grain allows super pigmented stains to stay in the wood, rather than being pulled off when a water based finish is applied. The stain color we created for the client was a custom color; a blend of DuraSeal Classic Gray and DuraSeal Country White.

We finished the custom stained White Oak wood floor with durable Bona finishes. First our crew applied Bona Mega Clear HD which eliminates the amber tint achieved with some finishes. And then we applied a final finish coat of Bona Traffic HD.

The custom stain achieved the look that the client wanted, and they were very happy with their refinished floor.
