Prefinished Birch Wood Flooring Installation – World Golf Village

Installed handscraped prefinished birch wood flooringReplacing existing carpeting with wood flooring is an improvement project that increases the value of a home, a condo, or a business.

As part of this home improvement project for this World Golf Village condo, we replaced existing carpeting with prefinished birch wood flooring.

The first step was removing 700 square feet of carpeting from the condo.

Next our Dan’s Floor Store crew leveled the concrete subfloor in the area that had been carpeted. We level the subfloor prior to installing wood floors to create a flat surface, which minimizes damage to the wood and maximizes the wood flooring life.

With the subfloor leveled, we installed the 5″ wide by 3/8″ thick, hand scraped, prefinished Birch wood flooring. as provided by the builder.

Our crew made our own moldings for this project, and did some clean carpet tucks where the wood and carpet in bedrooms met. This job turned out great, and our homeowner was pleased. And Dan’s Floor Store likes to have happy clients!

These Crescent Beach community homeowners (in St. Augustine, Florida) called Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 to restore their water damaged wood floor and staircase.

During the storm, wind and water came in through the windows and doors of the home. You can see some of the water damaged wood flooring and stairs in these photos.

Our crew began working this project by drying out the wet subfloor with dehumidifiers and high powered fans. Then our crew repaired over 500 square feet of engineered White Oak flooring (weave-in repairs with new White Oak flooring).

To restore the wood flooring and staircase, we sanded and hand scraped the edges of:

  • 2,000 square feet of White Oak flooring
  • 30 stair treads
  • 8 stairway newel posts
  • 80 linear feet of stair railing

The engineered White Oak flooring had a tough aluminum oxide finish. Our crew used a lot of sandpaper to go through all the stages of sanding the wood flooring to prepare it for refinishing.

Sand and Finish American Cherry Flooring – St. Augustine, Florida

Homeowners in south St. Augustine, Florida contracted Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 to sand and refinish the American Cherry flooring in their home.

American cherry is a rare specie to see these days. Most flooring manufacturers stopped making it because of how soft it is, but it is a very beautiful flooring.

They had pre-finished aluminum oxide American Cherry flooring in their home. Aluminum oxide is a very tough finish. It took three cuts with the sander to get all of the old finish off the wood flooring.

Next our crew applied Bona oil-modified DriFast Sealer.

We finished the American Cherry flooring with two coats of Bona oil-modified polyurethane finish for a tough protective coat with a slight amber color to enhance the natural tone of the wood.

Needless to say our clients were very happy with the outcome of their newly sanded and refinished American Cherry floors. And Dan’s Floor Store likes to have happy clients!

Sand and Finish Weave-in Repaired Red Oak Select Grade Flooring – St. Augustine

Weave-in repair of red oak flooringEarlier this year, Dan’s Floor Store started a home improvement project for clients in the Moultrie Foreside community, near Moultrie Creek in south St. Augustine. Our crew prepared the subfloor, and then wove-in solid Red Oak select grade wood flooring to extend the Red Oak through the home, and to repair some damaged areas of the wood flooring.

After allowing one month of acclamation time for the new solid Red Oak select grade flooring, we came back to sand and finish the Red Oak floors.

First, the acclimated wood flooring had to be sanded.

After sanding, our crew “popped” the wood flooring grain with water to give a deeper, darker color when we applied the stain. The stain selected was Early American by MinWax. Then we finished the floors with one coat of Bona drifast Sealer.

And then we waited around a month or so to allow the kitchen cabinets to come in. Next our Dan’s Floor Store crew buffed down the sealer coat on the Red Oak select grade flooring and applied two coats of Bona oil-modified satin.

Our clients were thrilled with the outcome of their floor, and Dan’s Floor Store likes to have happy clients!

Solid White Oak Wood Flooring Installation – Palencia Country Club (Jacksonville, Florida)

When owners were ready to replace the carpeting in the master bedroom and office of their Palencia home, they called Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 for a free consultation and estimate.

Closeup - solid white oak wood flooringThese clients liked the solid White Oak wood flooring that they already had installed in their main living room; a product of LM flooring. Since we carry LM flooring in our store, we ordered the same exact flooring for the master bedroom and office of their home.

The first day of this project, we tore out the old carpeting in the two selected areas of the home.

The same day, our crew did the floor leveling using quality Bostik products. Floor leveling is required on almost every wood floor installation project, to create a flat surface, which minimizes damage to the wood and maximizes the flooring life.

The next day, our Dan’s Floor Store crew installed all the new solid White Oak wood flooring, about 400 square feet of it.

And on our last day on the job site, we finished the project out with shoe molding all around the new wood floors and helped move the client’s furniture back in place.

Our clients were very happy with their new solid White Oak wood floors, and Dan’s Floor Stores always likes to have happy clients.

Brazilian Pecan Hardwood Flooring Installation – Palencia

Installed Brazilian Pecan hardwood flooringHomeowners in the Palencia community along the west bank of the Intracoastal Waterway in St. Augustine were ready for a new look in their home. They contacted Dan’s Floor Store for their flooring home improvement project – to replace 1,000 square feet of their tile flooring with some exotic wood flooring.

Our clients chose a 5 1/4″ by 1/2″ thick engineered Brazilian Pecan hardwood flooring with a “chocolate” stain by Triangulo for their new wood floor. This wood flooring, like most Brazilian specie, has a large amount of variation from plank to plank. It makes a wild looking, beautiful floor.

First our Dan’s Floor Store crew had to remove the old tile flooring.

A large amount of cuts had to be made prior to the tile being removed.

Checking moisture content of the concrete slab subfloor, we found the tile had been set prior to the slab being fully cured. So next we leveled the concrete slab, applying Bostik Universal Primer and then Bostik SL-150 Leveling Compound. To protect the wood flooring we were about to install for this project, we abated the moisture in the slab with Bostik’s MVP (Moisture Vapor Protection).

We installed the Brazilian Pecan hardwood flooring with Bostik Greenforce hardwood flooring adhesive. Application of Bostik Greenforce provides additional moisture protection for the new wood flooring, as well as long term adhesive durability.

Our Dan’s Floor Store crew finished out this project by installing floor trim molding around the new Brazilian Pecan hardwood flooring and at the doorways, and then kicked the carpeting back at each of the doorways to the bedrooms.

Our customers were thrilled with their new hardwood flooring! And Dan’s Floor Store likes to have happy customers.

Red Oak Plank Floors with Walnut Pegs Restoration – St. Augustine

Dan’s Floor Store was called to a home located in the Davis Shores community in St. Augustine, Florida. These homeowners are repeat clients. They called us in the spring of 2017 to replace the Red Oak plank floors with Walnut pegs in their home that were water damaged by Hurricane Matthew in 2016.

View of Mantanzas Bay from client's homeDuring the fall of the 2017 hurricane season, Hurricane Irma came through Northeastern Florida, wreaking a lot of damage. The new wood floors were water damaged as well. Our clients called on Dan’s Floor Store to help restore their home, replacing their damaged wood floor with Red Oak Plank Floors with Walnut Pegs.

The home is located the waterfront of Mantanzas Bay. The home owners have a nice view of Castillo de San Marco, right across the Bay.

First our crew removed all of the water damaged wood flooring from the home, and ordered solid, unfinished select Red Oak plank flooring in 4″. 6″, and 8″ random widths from one of our sources.

We had previously used drilling jigs to match the unique peg pattern in the old Red Oak wooden floor. We made new drilling jigs to help us save the peg pattern for the holes we would use for the 3/4″ Walnut pegs in the new Red Oak flooring.

Then our crew went to work and drilled all the peg holes in the new Red Oak plank flooring.

We organized and stacked the drilled planks to make it easier to find the ones we wanted during installation.

Next we installed the Red Oak plank flooring.

You can see nickels sitting between some planks during installation in some of the photos. Those nickels create expansion joints in the wood flooring; helping us leave room for the wood to properly expand and contract, so the wood flooring lasts longer. Expansion joints are just one example of how our Dan’s Floor Store complies with National Wood Flooring (NWFA) standards to provide our clients with beautiful results and long lasting wood floors.

With the new Red Oak wood flooring installed, we will have to wait several months (because the home is so close to the water) to allow the solid wood flooring to acclimate. Then we can come back, install the Walnut pegs, stain and finish the new Red Oak Plank Floors with Walnut Pegs.

New wood flooring (either solid wood, engineered wood, or laminate), or refinishing the wood floors in your home or business office will improve it’s looks and value. Just give Dan’s Floor Store a call 904.887.8303 to make an appointment for a free consultation and estimate.
