Sand and Finish White Oak Floors in TPC Sawgrass

Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 was contracted by new owners to sand and refinish a wire brushed White Oak floor in a home adjacent to TPC Sawgrass Valley course hole number 3.

This just happens to be the Oak flooring we had installed in this home 10 years prior. We found the Oak flooring had corralled a lot of dirt in the soft grain of the wood over the years, due to dogs being in and out of their yard.

We sanded the floors with our big Lagler-Hummel belt sander, and hand sanded and scraped the edges of the White Oak floors.

Then our Dan’s Floor Store team finished these wire brushed White Oak floors with durable Pallmann finish.

Repair and Refinish Heart Pine Flooring – Black Hammock Island

Repeat customers called Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 to repair and refinish the old Heart Pine flooring in a farmhouse on Black Hammock Island, on the Northside of Jacksonville, Florida.

We have been working with these homeowners for quite some time at another of their properties. They sold that property and moved onto a farmhouse on Black Hammock Island. Their new property includes plenty of land for their chickens, mules, horses, and other animals. This property offers a scenic location; situated along side of and overlooking the Amelia River.

The farmhouse was built with logs harvested from the property. And the flooring in the home was milled from some of those Heart Pine trees, too. Flooring in the photos is New Growth Heart Pine. Our crew had to replace several Heart Pine planks in the floor that had been damaged. We had some New Growth Heart Pine flooring that was congruent to the existing Pine flooring. Our team changed out the damaged boards and then sanded down the floor with our Lagler-Hummel belt sander, and hand scraped the edges.

Next we applied a Bona oil modified sealer as the first coat, to keep as close as we could to the previous look. (Sanding did remove some ambering and patina of the old Heart Pine flooring, so the new finish would result in a slightly lighter look.) After buffing down the first coat of oil modified Sealer, we then applied two coats of Pallmann Gold satin for a hardener filled topcoat.

The Heart Pine floors in this farmhouse get a lot of wear. Dan’s Floor Store has these farmhouse homeowners on a flooring maintenance schedule. We will be back to refresh these floors within three years. It’s important to refinish this species of flooring every 3 to 5 years. This regular maintenance routine prevents dirt from getting ground into the soft grain of the wood.

Sand and Recoat Oak Flooring in Vilano Beach

Our clients (homeowners in Vilano Beach, Florida) contracted Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 to sand and refinish the mixed Oak flooring in their home.

These wood floors were a combination of White Oak sprinkled in with some Red Oak, and White Oak stairs with with a medallion on the landing of the stairway.

Dan recognized the flooring as reclaimed old barn wood by Carlisle, in varied widths and lengths.

We sanded the main surfaces of the floors with our big Lagler-Hummel belt sander, and hand sanded the edges.

After sanding the Oak floors, landing, and stairway, these surfaces were recoated with Waterlox Tung oil. This Tung oil comes from the Tung tree, and is the only coating we know of that is impermeable to water. It gives a natural, long-lasting finish to wood floors, and is environmentally friendly. The Tung oil coating provides an impermeable water membrane, as confirmed when all of the old pet stains were easily eradicated by our sander, due to the coating’s protection. The wood protection provided by a coating of Tung oil is quite unbelievable. In fact, Tung oil was used by ancient Native American tribes to seal their canoes and boats from water.

Heart Pine Flooring in Marsh Landing

Homeowners in the Marsh Landing community in Ponte Vedra, Florida contracted Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 to sand and refinish the Heart Pine flooring in their home, while they would be away on a Spring Break voyage. Since this couple liked the Heart Pine floors in some areas of their home, they asked Dan to also install beautiful New Growth Heart Pine flooring which they had obtained (for a harmonious match and continuation) in some other areas in their home, too. (They chose their an upstairs long hallway, their Master bedroom, and a closet for this flooring improvement project.)

After moving the furniture and removing the old flooring, we leveled the plywood sheet subfloor upstairs, by sanding the edges of the sheets. We also got some major squeaks out of the upstairs subfloor by installing some 3″ long screws. Then our crew installed their new growth Heart Pine flooring.
We repaired a board downstairs due to beetle damage, then sanded the upstairs and downstairs Heart Pine flooring.
Then our crew finished the Heart Pine with a beautiful, clear matte finish by Pallmann, to match the look the original flooring had prior to starting this job. (Our crew applied one coat of Pallman clear coat, followed by 2 coats of durable Pallmann Gold matte finish.)

Cupped American Cherry Flooring in Fernandina

Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 was contacted by one of our favorite real estate brokers to help their client with the floors in their newly purchased home. The home is situated right on the Amelia River, just across the water from Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island.

The existing flooring was American Cherry flooring and due to being solid in nature had a good amount of cupping (probably from lack of acclimating the flooring properly, prior to installation).

Solving the flooring cupping problem was the main reason we were selected for this job. No one likes to walk on a cupped floor.

Some of these before photos show the distinct, cupping pattern. Cupping happens when the bottom of the wood is wetter than the top of the wood. In this case, the American Cherry wood flooring which was put in didn’t have enough acclamation time went through the seasonal changes of Northeast Florida, i.e. the extreme humidity. We also refinished the stairway.

Needless to say, we took care of the cupping in the wood flooring by angling the floor by using rough sandpapers and our Lagler Hummel drum sanding machine. We also hand sanded the edges of the flooring. This method gets the flooring surface flat. as well as sanding the surface to prepare it for a new finish. It took 3 runs of paper with our Lagler Hummel drum sander, but our crew eliminated both the cupping and former carpet lines from an area rug had created on the flooring. The sanded wooden flooring and stair treads looked very, very beautiful!

Our crew finished these floors and stairs with three coats of waterborne finish with a satin topcoat Pallmann Clear for a seal coat, and final two coats of durable Pallman power satin.

The realtor and our clients told us they were impressed with how nice these American Cherry floors look now. Dan’s Floor Store always likes to have happy clients!

This wood floor and stairway refinishing job by Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 took place in an absolutely stunning home in Clay County, Florida, on Black Creek. Our client contracted us to sand and finish their 2,000+ square feet of tropical exotic hardwood Jatoba (also known as Brazilian Cherry) wood flooring and staircase.

As you can see in these Before photos, we could see this wood flooring was showing carpet lines, which went away after we sanded the floor.

Our crew sanded the floors and staircase with long stair treads, to remove the old finish.

Then we applied the Bona Intense Seal, as chosen by our customer. After applying the sealer, our crew buffed down the grain of the wood, raised by the water sealer, to a super smooth surface. We finished the Brazilian Cherry floors and stairway with 3 coats of Bona Traffic HD matte finish.

Repair, Sand and Finish Wood Flooring in Springfield Apartments

Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 was contracted to repair, sand, and finish the wood flooring in 18 apartments in the historic Springfield neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida. The flooring was a mix of Red Oak, White Oak, and Pine.

There were many areas of wood flooring to repair throughout some of the apartment homes, due to termites and other damage. We used the weave-in method to replace sections of wood flooring from other old, vintage homes in the area.

In some of these photos, you can see where we used recovered subfloor, and lighter areas in the flooring show where the subfloor touches the beams.

In all, our crew repaired, sanded and finished nearly 14,000 square feet of wood flooring in these apartments to restore a beautiful, natural wood look!

We applied 3 coats of polyurethane; 1 coat of Bona Fast Dry Sealer, and 2 coats of Pallmann Power Ultramatte.

This job took nearly a month for the Dan’s Floor Store crew to complete. It took a lot of work to remove the layers of wax, paint, tar, drywall residue and more that had accumulated on the existing flooring in each apartment unit. For us, each unit was a time consuming labor of love to be prettied up, and we did!

Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 was contracted to sand and finish the solid Red Oak flooring and 2 stairways in a home in Yulee, Florida. This is an old home, located on the marsh, just west of Fernandina Beach. One set of stairs was Red Oak, the other was Pine.

We found the flooring to be in good shape overall, no repairs were needed.

Our crew sanded the floors using our Lagler-Hummel belt sander on the larger areas of the floors. and also sanded all of the stair treads. We hand scraped the edges of the floors and stair treads.

During a break, we enjoyed the view of the nearby marsh.

Install, Sand, Finish – White Oak Flooring – Sawgrass TPC

Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 was contracted for a wood flooring job in TPC Sawgrass, right on the Dye’s Valley Course!

Our client was a new homeowner and he was moving here from Boston, Massachusetts with his family. They needed to get this job done under a strict time frame; finished right before Thanksgiving!

Dan did the on-site inspection of the wood flooring project site, and measured the designated project flooring areas. The project was to refinish the existing wood flooring, and replace existing carpet with matching wood flooring in the carpeted sunken living room and a master bedroom. He determined the existing wood flooring in the home (to be matched) was solid White Oak, in 2 1/4 inch wide planks.

Our crew removed all of the old carpeting and leveled the concrete subfloor. A good wood flooring installation requires a leveled subfloor. Leveling included around the two fireplaces; one in the master and one in the sunken in living room. The area in the sunken living room required extensive leveling to arrive to the same height as the fireplace hearths.

As we started the wood flooring installation, our crew picture framed header boards around the fireplaces, completely flush to the marble. Our crew used an unfinished engineered wood product that is made in America by Maxwell; in 2 1/4 inch wide White Oak engineered hardwood flooring, using Bostiks Greenforce adhesive.

Meanwhile, the existing White Oak flooring was being sanded with our sanding equipment by Dan and his crew.

We used Pallman Nature Seal, and Pallman Pure to finish this flooring job.

Needless to say, Dan and his Dan’s Floor Store crew met the timeline to allow our customers to move in right before Thanksgiving and enjoy their Thanksgiving in their new home, with our new Floors.

Springfield Floor Repair, Sand and Finish

This wood flooring project took place in an old home in the historic Springfield neighborhood of downtown Jacksonville, Florida. Our customer initially wanted Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 to just sand and finish the old Heart Pine flooring, upstairs and downstairs. The further we got into this project, we found these old floors would need a lot of repairs.

There were subfloor issues that we found underneath the termite infested flooring boards. Our team had to repair the subfloor before we could start weaving-in the new Heart Pine flooring planks.

Our team used the weave-in method to install the new river recovered Heart Pine planks from Goodwin Heart Pine.

Then we sanded and stained the replaced flooring with a Bona stain. (Since the Heart Pine was river recovered, It was slightly lighter wood.) There were hundreds of Heart Pine boards that we removed and replaced.

Finally, we finished these Heart Pine wood floors with durable Pallmann finishes; 1 coat of Pallmann clear, then 2 coats of Pallmann power finish..
