In this old home, located in the Riverside neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida, the whole upstairs flooring was Heart Pine. The downstairs and stairs were made of White Oak.

Refinish Old Heart Pine Floors – Downtown Jacksonville FL

This Heart Pine wood floor refinishing project took Dan and his Dan’s Floor Store crew to an older home in downtown Jacksonville, Florida.

The flooring in the home was circa 1900 Heart Pine, and the old home was adorned with interesting historic photos of Jacksonville and surrounding areas.

The finish on these old wooden floors in the project home was worn with years of use, but did not need repairs (such as weaving in replacement Heart Pine planks).

We began by sanding the floors, and then hand scraping the edges of the wood flooring.

Our team finished these floors with a durable Pallmann finish.

Clients contracted Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 to whiten and refinish the Pine floors and staircase in their home.

Our crew began by sanding and hand scraping the edges of the Pine floors and stair treads.

We stained the sanded wood white. Then our crew applied two coats of Pallmann White Seal, followed by two coats of Pallmann Pure.

Painted Stairways for a Home on the St. Johns River

Owners of a country home on Florida County Road 13 (with a nice view of the St. Johns River) contracted Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 to sand and finish their two stairways for a new look for their home. We can do that!

During their FREE on-site consultation, these clients selected a matte black Sherwin Williams stair paint for their staircases.

Our crew began by sanding and hand scraping the edges of the Maple stair treads and landings of the stairways. Bare wood helps the stair paint adhere better to last longer, through daily traffic.

We masked off the areas of the stairways to be painted. Then our crew applied the quality Sherwin Williams stair paint with a matte black finish.

For added durability while retaining the non-reflective finish, we added a Pallmann matte to finish to the painted staircases.

Oak Staircase Refinished in Markland in St. Augustine

The owners of a home in the Markland community, in St. Augustine, Florida contracted Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 to refinish their Red Oak staircase to match the look of the laminate flooring in their home.

Our crew sanded and then hand scraped the stair treads, landings, and rails. Next we applied a black stain to the Red Oak wood, then sanded the surfaces just enough, leaving some of the stain in the wood grain. Our crew added a smokey look to the stair treads with a Rubio Monocoat Smoke .

We followed this up with Rubio Monocoat Natural. Allowed several weeks; ample time to cure. And then our crew coated the stairs, landings and rails with Pallmann Pall-X Gold.

Refinish Red Oak Stairway – Payasada in Ponte Vedra Beach

Homeowners in the Payasada community in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida contracted Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 to refinish their Red Oak stairway to harmonize with the White Oak flooring in their home.

Red Oak stair treads and landings often have a orangey-pinkish hue to them. Overcoming / subduing the pink shades in Red Oak to mimic White Oak is a tou gh obstacle. But Dan’s Floor Store gets the job done!

After sanding and hand scraping the edges of these Red Oak stair treads and landings, our crew applied a white stain. Next came durable Pallmann products; two coats of Pallmann White Seal on top of two coats of Pallmann Pure. This resulted in a duller than matte finish look that our clients wanted.

  • Pallmann matte sheen level is 10.
  • The sheen level of these stair treads and landings was 2 to 3; much duller than matte.
  • This further helped subdue the pink shades in the Red Oak wood.

European Oak Hardwood Flooring Installation in Coastal Oaks

It’s always nice when prior clients like your work and they call you back for another flooring, stair, or tile project!

Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 had done a removal and new installation flooring project at this home in the Palencia Golf and Country Club community, several months ago. Now our client was ready to have their wooden staircase refinished to harmonize and correlate with their 7 1/2″ wide engineered White Oak flooring, in Malaga by Sawgrass Hills.

The Red Oak treads on this staircase had a massive amount of orangey-gunstock color to them. It is often a challenge to subdue the shades of pink that pop out when finishing Red Oak wood.

First we sanded and hand scraped the treads and landing.

0ur crew was able to subdue the pink hues with a special combination of Bona stains. We finished these Red Oak treads with 3 coats of Pallmann Gold Ultra Matte.

After our crew had the handrail sanded, our client wanted it painted, so we did!

Refinishing Solid White Oak Floors and Stairway – Atlantic Beach

This Atlantic Beach homeowner wanted a beachy look to brighten this home, and contracted Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 to refinish and whiten his White Oak floors and stairway.

We began by sanding and hand scraping the edges of 2,600 square feet of solid White Oak hardwood flooring. The floors are a mixture of number one common and number two common. (Number 2 common has more color variations and knotting than number 1 White Oak hardwood flooring.) Our crew also sanded and hand scraped the 18 Oak stair treads in the home, to refinish them.

Our customer selected Bona White stain for his floors and stairway. We stained the White Oak floors and stairs after “popping” the wood grain with water to open them up for a deeper stain results.

Our crew began finishing these White Oak floors and stairs with two coats of Pallmann White Seal.

Then we applied a final coat of Pallmann Pure, to achieve the very low sheen floors and stairs that our client wanted.

New homeowners in the older side of Sawgrass Country Club were referred to Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 by one of the Best realtors/real estate brokers in Ponte Vedra Beach!

Our clients were moving back to Ponte Vedra Beach from Atlanta and needed this large scale flooring and stair job done in their new home, before they were due to move in!

For this residential project, our crew:

  • installed 4 new rooms of 4″ wide solid Red Oak select grade wood flooring by Oak Crest (these were all bedrooms),
  • sanded, hand scraped the edges, and stained 2,400 square feet of Oak wood flooring, and 50 Oak stair treads and handrails in several areas of the home.

Sanded and scraped Oak wood flooring, stair treads and handrails.

Then we “popped” (opened up) the wood grain with water, for a deeper, bolder stain. Next our crew applied Bona Antique Brown stain .
We finished these Oak floors, stair treads and handrails with durable Pallmann Clear sealer and Pallmann Gold finish.

Sand and Finish Oak Flooring in St. Augustine Beach

View out the window - St. Augustine Beach.This job took place in St. Augustine Beach. The homeowners were moving here from Pittsburgh and Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 was able to squeeze this job into our busy schedule for some new Floridians.

Their floors are number 1 Red Oak with number 2 White Oak flooring planks peppered in here and there. We have also seen this mixture of Red and White Oak planks in flooring in some other homes built in the 1950s.

Our clients wanted a bare/naked wood look for their floors. Pallmann has a product that helped us achieve that look, so our clients asked us to refinish their Oak stair treads to match their Oak floors.

We sanded the old, oil modified polyurethane finish off, and hand scraped the edges of the Oak floors and stair treads.

Our crew coated these Oak floors and stair treads with Pallmann Natureseal and Pallmann Pure; companion sealer and finish for giving the bare/naked wood look to the flooring. The result it the look of a freshly sanded Oak floor, but the floor has 3 coats of protection.

This Pallmann finish combination is amazing – the dry look is so clear, more dull than an ultra matte, and it is in trend with the vibe of this St. Augustine Beach house!
