European Oak Flooring and Tile Install – Hibernia

For this job, Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 installed engineered European Oak hardwood flooring, and did tile work in a New 2 story home in the Hibernia community of Fleming Island, Florida.

Our team always starts a wood flooring installation by leveling the concrete slab subfloor for first floor work. We level the sheet plywood subfloor upstairs by sanding and then hand scraping the edges. Then our team installed the customer provided 10 1/4″ wide LW engineered European Oak hardwood flooring. This flooring came in random lengths, so we could provide added visual appeal to the wood flooring as we installed it.

 

(We sanded, stained, and finished the home’s solid white oak stair treads, railings and posts match the new European Oak wood flooring, too.)

Our team also installed client-selected and provided tiles in several areas of the new home. For example, our client provided Terramor Bianco marble by Elsmer Tile for the primary bathroom. After leveling the subfloor, our team installed hardiebacker boards to protect the shower and bath tub area walls and ceilings from moisture intrusion.

Next we installed the tiles on walls, ceilings, and floors in patters as specified by the client. Their design included tiled niches in shower and bathtub areas, and some natural skylights. We thought these were some very interesting design features and beautiful selections of tile in this new home.

(Although some of the wood flooring and tile materials used in this project were purchased and provided by our client, we can also provide them via our Ponte Vedra showroom store.)

New Hardwood Flooring – New Tile in TPC Sawgrass

Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 recently replaced wood flooring with European Oak hardwood flooring in some rooms of a home in the TPC Sawgrass community. Our crew installed tile in master bathroom (with renovated separate toilet area/water closet and shower).

We began this project by removing the old wood flooring and tile.

Here’s the project materials that our crew brought in for this job..

Next we prepared the bathroom floor, shower and separate toilet area/water closet for tile installation.

Dan checked the moisture content of the new areas of concrete in the slab subfloor in the master bathroom. (A high moisture content can cause problems for new flooring.)
Then our crew used Bostik products to seal and to level the concrete subfloor. (An unleveled subfloor can cause problems with a new flooring installation, too.)

We installed new tile in the bathroom.

Our crew installed the 7 1/2″ wide, wire brushed European Oak hardwood flooring, color Melrose, in random lengths, by Sawgrass Hills with Bostik Green Force Adhesive. Bedrosian tile from the Monet collection, with honed marble in Oriental White mosaic in a cross pattern were used in the shower floor and master bath floor. The shower wall and ceiling tile are glossy white 5 x 16 Tesoro tile from the Buteo collection.

Refreshed stairway - featured.

5″ Wide Oak Flooring Install and Refresh Stairway in Ponte Vedra Beach

Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 was contracted to install 5″ wide Mirage TruBalance White Oak flooring in an upper hallway and two bedrooms, refinish stair treads, and refresh the look of the tiled stairway risers to more coastal colors. (The refinished stair treads were to match the look of the new White Oak flooring.)

Our crew removed the old carpeting in specified areas upstairs. Then we leveled the sheet plywood subfloor by sanding and hand scraping the subfloor edges. Next our crew started installing the beautiful Mirage White Oak wood flooring.

We only installed flooring in the hallway and two upstairs bedrooms that tied into a nosing along with the stair landing in the wood flooring.

Then we got new White Oak treads and stain matched them. First came sanding the treads, and then wire brushing them. First staining them white, then sanding and staining them a darker shade (with some of the primary stain remaining), for a soft, two tone stain look. The bottom stair tread was a super custom-made stair tread, created by our stair artisan. (Dan has a talent for very successful stain matching wood, which was Super Duper congruent to the flooring!)

First we stripped the stair frame.

We refreshed the look of the tiled risers with more coastal colors, too!

Then we added the new tile to the risers, and the new stain matched treads to achieve refreshed stairways.

Red Oak Flooring Refinish – Install and Retile Bathroom – Long Point CC

Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 was contracted by a realtor, whom we were referred to by another realtor, to improve flooring and tile in a recently sold house. This house is in the Long Point Country Club neighborhood, on Amelia Island.

Our work would entail adding Red Oak flooring to a staircase, a storage room, and another staircase, along with sanding and refinishing 3,800 square feet of Red Oak flooring, and another staircase.

The specie sanded was Red Oak rift and quarter sawn, throughout the main part of the house. Our crew installed select grade 2 1/4″ Maxwell unfinished engineered Red Oak, to be congruent with existing Red Oak floor in one of the upstairs bedrooms.

The stain formula we used for refinished Red Oak flooring was 1 part Bona Antique Brown with 2 parts Bona Natural stain. It created a lovely color, which was exactly what our customer wanted.

Our crew also removed and retiled a bathroom tub and shower surround with Datile Divinium Nova DV06 color glossy 6×18 rectangles for the herringbone pattern on walls/tub surround tile, and marble Datile honed Calacatta Gold M475 hexagon floor tile.

Tile and White Oak Flooring Install – Springfield

Our Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 was selected for a wood flooring and tile flooring improvement project in the Springfield neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida.

We began by roughing up the stained concrete slab floor with a floor grinder. Then our crew leveled the concrete slab (which we would use as the subfloor for our Oak hardwood flooring and our tile installations). A level subfloor is very important to achieving a quality flooring installation.

Subsequently we began flooring installation. For this job, it was 5″ wide engineered White Oak hardwood flooring for most of the house, with 17″ x 17″ tile in the kitchen, and 8″ x 8″ decorative tile in the bathroom.

Tile Installation in Sawgrass home

New clients in Sawgrass selected Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 to replace the existing tile on walls and floors in the bathroom and laundry room of their home. These clients provided the tiles that we installed. Dan’s Floor Store can install tiles provided by our clients in their home or business. Or we can purchase tiles, marble or stone for our clients, and install these materials, too!

First we had to “demo” (remove the existing tile) and prepare the bathroom and laundry room for the new tile.

In the bathroom and in the laundry of our clients’ home, our crew installed 12″ by 24″ porcelain tiles on the floors.

For the shower, we installed their square contour tiles in a stacked square design, to line up in an eye-pleasing pattern. For the doorway to the shower, our crew installed white marble up to the doorway and on the top of the curb, as well as the top of the shower walls. We also installed a handy and nicely sized insert shelf. The tile used in the shelf was the same as we used for the shower floor.

Although there are no photos, we did install new cement backer boards in the shower area. Cement backer boards are resistant to mold growth and damage from moisture, making them great tile underlayment for wet areas like bathrooms and kitchens. Our crew also applied waterproofing to the shower walls, prior to tile installation.

Our crew also did not get photos to show that the floors were leveled, prior to tile installation. A level subfloor surface is important for a good tile installation.

Wood look tile flooring, installed.

Wood Look Plank Tile Installation – Marsh Landing CC

Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 sells and installs a wide variety of tiles, with many sample tiles on display in our Ponte Vedra showroom. And we also can install tiles provided by clients and local building contractors we work with.

For this job, the owners of a home in the North Island section of the Marsh Island Golf and Country Club community of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida provided us the wood look floor tiles for our crew to install. There were 3 different plank tiles used for this job. We installed their tile in the separate Casita, as well as the office, master bedroom, upstairs bonus room, and on the stairs that led up to bonus room.

Our work started by prepping; taking out all of the carpet from these areas as well as from the stairs. We spotted some small cracks in the concrete slab subfloor. Small, surface stress cracks in poured concrete floors can appear as the home settles. Our crew fills in cracks wider than 1/4″ wide. Then we applied Bostick Leveler to the concrete slab subfloors. The Leveler also fills in the smaller cracks in the concrete subfloor. Our crew sanded the edges of the sheet plywood to level the floors subfloors upstairs. We also squared the stairs off with Hardibacker board. Squaring the stairs like this gives better final results when we laminate the stairway with tile. Proper prepping for any job is important!

In the bonus room, our team installed Ditra membrane by Schluter as an underlayment, between the sheet plywood subfloor and the tile. Ditra is lighter than Hardibacker board. Ditra is a little more expensive but designed specifically for ceramic and stone tile installations to ensure the durability and integrity of the installation; a great product.

Once all of this prep work was done, our crew installed the client’s wood look plank tile, and our client agreed; it looks amazing! Dan’s Floor Store always likes to have happy clients.

Tiling Two Showers in Mandarin

For this home improvement project, our client wanted new tile installed in two shower areas in their home in the Mandarin neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida. They selected Tesola Silver in 12″ by 12″ and 2″ by 2″ mosaic, glazed ceramic tile by Emser Tile for both showers. One shower area retained the tub. In the other shower area, the tub was removed to make space for a larger showering area.

Our crew “demo’d” (did the necessary material removal work) in both shower areas. This also gave the plumber access for his work. The plumber removed the tub from one shower area, and installed the shower pans. Once all of this work was done by the plumber, our tile job could commence.

First, we hung all of the Hardibacker boards, to serve as the substrate for our tile installation.

After the Hardibacker boards were installed, our crew waterproofed the showers with Red Guard, mudding the pans of the showers with the proper slope, to drain well.

With our prep work done, we installed the Emser Tesola Silver tiles.

When our customer saw the two, newly tiled shower areas, they were very happy with the outcome. And Dan’s Floor Store always likes to have happy clients.

Glass Tile Backsplashes Installed – Nocatee FL

A homeowner in Nocatee, Florida had purchased some blue glass tile, and contracted Dan’s Floor Store to install the tile as 3 backsplashes in their kitchen.

The glass tiles were installed in a “running bond” (or brick) pattern. The installation required the glass tiles to be cut to fit around 7 electrical outlets in the 3 backsplash areas.
– There were some very thin, intricate cuts required, up under the kitchen cabinets, as you can see in the photos.
– Tiling around both sides of the exhaust hood vent also required custom tile cuts.
