Engineered French Oak Plank Flooring Installed in Ponte Vedra Beach

A local new home builder contracted Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 to install hardwood flooring in a project home under construction in Ponte Vedra Beach, on Ponte Vedra Boulevard.

We began by doing a large amount of leveling on the concrete slab and plywood sheet subfloors. Our crew always levels the subfloor prior to installing hardwood flooring.

The flooring selected for this project was 8″ wide x 9/16″ thick, engineered French Oak plank flooring from the Charleston collection; Cottonfield by Palmetto Road.

We covered 4,000 sq.ft. of floor with this engineered French Oak hardwood. For this project, our crew used Bostik Green Force adhesive . The flooring straps we use for the wide plank installations can be seen in some of the photos.

A picture framed fireplace, and a change of direction down the hall, leading to the master suite, were two highlights of the main French Oak flooring installation work.

We also installed the French Oak planks and nosing for a staircase.

What we considered to be the showpiece of this flooring project is in the bourbon room, where our crew made a special herringbone design with the French Oak flooring. To create the herringbone pattern, we made additional cuts on each plank, to make the extra tongues and grooves needed for a solid wood floor.

Brazilian Cherry Staircase Installation – Julington Creek

Brazilian Cherry stair treads with white risersDan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 was called out to install a staircase, with white risers and Brazilian Cherry stair treads, by homeowners in the gated community of Julington Creek.

Dan’s Floor Store is experienced in stain matching wood flooring and stairs to existing wood or to create a look that our customer wants to see in their home or business. And these clients wanted Brazilian Cherry stair treads, match stained to the color of their existing wood flooring. We can do that!

We created a match stain for the treads with a 50-50 ratio of Natural and Red mahogany stains by Bona. Our crew pre-finishes the stair treads before installation, so we only stain the treads. Much more efficient!

After staining the Brazilian Cherry stair treads, we finished them with three coats of Pallmann Power Semi-gloss, to mimic the semi-gloss finish on the wood flooring. Then we installed the new risers and the match stained Brazilian Cherry treads.

Almost needless to say, after seeing their new Brazilian Cherry staircase, our customers were very happy with the outcome! And Dan’s Floor Store always likes to have happy clients!

Engineered White Oak Hardwood Flooring Installation – Hammock Beach FL

Engineered White Oak flooring - installedAs part of a new home construction project, Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 was contracted to install 1,600 square feet of engineered White Oak hardwood flooring. And this flooring was also installed on the stair frame, to create a matching staircase. The home is located in the northern part Hammock Beach, Florida.

The homeowners chose 7 1/2″ wide by 5/8″ thick White Oak flooring in random lengths. This flooring is made by Sawgrass Hills, in the color named Malaga. Our crew did quite a bit of a leveling of the concrete slab subfloor, as in all jobs. We prepare the substrate so that the flooring which we install lays level across it. A leveled subfloor means there will be no hollow spots under your new flooring. Next our crew installed the White Oak flooring using Bostik Green Force Adhesive and Moisture Control Membrane.

We covered the stair frame with the same White Oak flooring and stair nosing, for a matching look. The stair treads that our crew made feature mitered returns for a nice, finished look.

Needless to say the clients and our builder we did the job for were ecstatic with the outcome. And Dan’s Floor Store always likes to have happy customers!

American Walnut Flooring Installation and New Steps – Plantation Country Club

American Walnut flooring installedPlantation Country Club homeowners called Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 to install American Walnut wood flooring in their home. This project included replacing the marble flooring in the foyer of their home with the new wood flooring. The homeowners also wanted to change the shape of the steps from the foyer into the main floor of the home.

First our crew removed the marble flooring in the foyer. (Unfortunately, we didn’t get photos of this segment of the project.) Next, we re-framed the whole foyer, making the steps longer across the foyer (instead of the trapezoidal shaped steps which had been there). Now the foyer is symmetrical and the steps are wider. The wider steps provide easier access to the home living area.

The concrete slab floor required a massive amount of leveling! Leveling creates a level surface for the wood flooring to be installed. For this project, leveling also makes the surface of the wood flooring flush with the existing marble flooring in the home, without requiring transition moldings.

Our clients chose 7 1/2″ wide, Duchateau engineered American Walnut flooring, from the Vernal collection. We used Bostik’s ProCure adhesive to install the American Walnut flooring in this home.

For us, the step work /re-framing really sets this job off. Our clients said they were simply blown away with our work and how lovely this project area looks now. They told us that the re-shaped foyer and steps are a welcome improvement to their home. And Dan’s Floor Store likes to have happy clients!

Engineered French Oak Flooring & Treads – Plantation Golf & Country Club PVB

Our client selected 8″ wide, engineered French Oak flooring, from Bella Cera‘s Villa Borghese collection.

We began by leveling the concrete slab subfloor on the first level. We had to use a large amount of floor leveler to get the concrete slab ready for our wood flooring. Upstairs, our crew went from room to room, sanding all of the plywood subfloor seams to achieve a level surface.

Then we installed 4,000 square feet of the hardwood French Oak flooring. We used flooring straps when installing this French Oak wood flooring, because of the width of the flooring planks.

Our crew also did the staircase, including two landings and 21 treads in the same French Oak flooring, using nosing and flooring for the stair treads. In all, this project took several weeks to complete

The new flooring and stair treads were covered for protection while the rest of the construction work finished.

We returned to the home several weeks later, when the construction work was completed, and our new flooring and stair treads were unveiled. Everything looked great, so we got some more photos of this wood flooring and stairs project.

French Oak Hardwood Flooring Install – Matching Stairs – St. Augustine Beach

French Oak hardwood flooring installedIt’s always nice when a prior client refers a friend to your business. For this wood flooring installation project in Saint Augustine Beach, one of Dan’s Floor Store’s prior clients referred a friend of theirs to us.

Our new client selected Bella Cera Villa Borghese engineered French Oak hardwood flooring in the Alessandra color. This is a really beautiful flooring with that kind of a whitewashed look that blends in beautifully with the beach area in which this house is situated.

Before we could install the new wood flooring, our crew did a massive amount of floor leveling with Bostik SL-150 Self Leveling Underlayment.

Then we had to seal the concrete floor with Bostik MVP4 because of a high level of moisture in the concrete slab subfloor.

Now we were ready to glue the engineered French Oak hardwood flooring down, over top of the MVP4 moisture barrier. The solid oak stair treads were done with a perfect stain match; super beautiful.

Match Stained Radius Tread Staircase – Jacksonville Beach

Radius stair treads with custom risersClients from a prior wood flooring installation called Dan’s Floor Store back for another home improvement project. This time we were installing new, solid White Oak stair treads on their two staircases, stained to match the wood flooring we had installed previously in their three story home.

Their White Oak wood flooring by D & M Flooring has a skip sawn, bold, rustic look, achieved using a wire brush that skips to create patterns on the face of the wood flooring. This skip sawn pattern can be seen in the background in some of the photos that show the match stained stair treads laid on the floor. Those photos also show that there was quite a variation in the colors/shades of brown of the wood flooring for our crew to match on these stair treads.

To construct the custom White Oak radius treads, our crew had to glue together two stair treads to get the dimensions we needed. Then we cut out a template for the radius end of the tread from a door skin. Using the template as a guide, we cut the radius treads. Our crew finally molded the solid stair treads to size, to fit over the top of the sub treads and custom risers.

It took some time to find the combination of stain colors, applied in patterns to get the stair treads to match the look of the flooring. Our crew applied several different stain colors, creating a montage of Rubio Monocoat colors to achieve the look to match the wood floors. We were very happy with the results we achieved.

Our crew applied several coats of Bona Traffic HD ultra matte to finish these custom stair treads.

We are really proud of these match stained radius treads. Not only was the stain on the stair treads well matched to the wood flooring, but the custom radius treads along with the custom risers that we installed for them look epic!

Matching Stained and Finished Red Oak Staircase in Ponte Vedra Beach

Ponte Vedra Beach homeowners called on Dan’s Floor Store for a special home improvement project. They wanted us to install new solid Red Oak staircase treads and new stair rail, and wanted the new stair rail and treads to have the look of their existing wood flooring – matching stained.

Dan’s Floor Store has found that it is much more efficient to sand, stain, and finish stair treads prior to installing them. After sanding the individual stair treads, our crew achieved the matching stained look on the Red Oak stair treads with a double stain process. We used quality Minwax stains :

  • the first stain was Red Mahogany
  • the second (top) stain was Honey

Then our crew finished each stair tread with 3 coats of durable Pallmann waterborne Power finish, ultra matte for long lasting protection. Pallmann is a German made finish, from a company that has been in business since 1904!

The stair rail was sanded, stained, and finished to match the stair treads and the wood flooring.

Then our crew installed the finished matching stained stair treads and rail.

Wire Brushed White Oak Flooring and Staircase – Marshview

View of the marsh.This Dan’s Floor Store wood flooring installation and staircase project took place in a home in Marshview.

Marshview is a community just north of Vilano Beach, directly off the Coastal Highway.

The carpeting which is installed in most homes starts to wear and become harder to keep clean after three or four years.

This home improvement project entailed removing the existing carpet in four different rooms and adjacent closets and staircase, and replacing the carpeting with wire brushed White Oak flooring and solid White Oak stair treads.

Our client chose a 9 inch wide by 9/16 inch thick wire brushed European White Oak with a natural top and white stain in the soft grain. This wire brushed White Oak flooring is a product of Nuvelle, in the Camelot collection – Oak Mist.

After removing the carpet from the floors and stairs, we leveled the subfloor, installed the White Oak flooring, and prepared the staircase for the new stair treads.

The staircase required 29 solid White Oak stair treads. We wire brushed the tread after sanding them so they had the same texture as the new wood flooring. Next we stained the stair treads white to mimic the flooring, using white stain in the grain. Our crew finished the new White Oak stair treads with Bona Traffic matte.

There were two landings installed, which we had to do in place. We usually pre-finish the stair treads, prior to installation (to eliminate getting any stain up on skirt boards), and then install them.

Our customers were elated with the outcome of this wood flooring installation and staircase project, and Dan’s Floor Store likes to have happy customers.

Brazilian Cherry Staircase with Wood Flooring Installation

New wood flooring, provided by client and installed by Dan's Floor StoreDan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 sells and installs a wide variety of wood flooring, but we also install wood flooring that our clients purchase elsewhere, and need to have installed in their home or business.

And it always makes us feel good when someone we have done work for calls us to help with another project for their home or business.

This home improvement project took place in a home in Hampton Park, off Gate Parkway in Baymeadows neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida. Our client is an existing customer, so this is repeat business (3rd project for this client). They wanted to replace carpeting with wood in several areas of the home.

After removing all the carpeting and padding, we prepared the subfloor and staircase, and installed our client’s wood flooring in their home’s upstairs sitting area and hallways that lead to the upstairs bedrooms.

For this Brazilian Cherry staircase, our Dan’s Floor Store crew sanded, stained, and finished 17 new Brazilian Cherry stair treads and one landing to blend with the new flooring. We also sanded, stained and finished the existing Red Oak handrail and newel posts to blend with the new Brazilian Cherry stair treads we installed.

To make the wood on the Brazilian Cherry staircase blend with the new wood flooring, we “popped” the grain in the stair treads after sanding the wood. Then we stained the treads with a custom stain that we created, a 50/50 mix of DuraSeal Red Mahogany and Sedona Red. We finished the stair treads, rail, and newel posts with a top coat of durable Bona Mega Clear semi gloss.

Our client was very pleased with their new wood floors, and how good their staircase wood looked. And having happy clients makes us happy too!
