Sand and Finish Old Wood Floors in Ponte Vedra, Florida

Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 was selected to refinish the old wooden floors in a home on Roscoe Boulevard in Ponte Vedra Beach.

Some of the wood floors in this project home were of White Oak with Walnut borders. Some of the floors were of Heart Pine.

This historic home was moved from the Riverside neighborhood to Roscoe Boulevard in Ponte Vedra, part of the way via a barge on the water (the St. Johns River and the Intracoastal Waterway).

A picture taken of the home, floating on the barge as it was being moved was displayed in one of the rooms in which we refinished the wood flooring.

After sanding the floors, and hand scraping the edges of all the sanded wood surfaces, our crew applied durable Pallmann Finish.

Refinishing Solid White Oak Floors and Stairway – Atlantic Beach

This Atlantic Beach homeowner wanted a beachy look to brighten this home, and contracted Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 to refinish and whiten his White Oak floors and stairway.

We began by sanding and hand scraping the edges of 2,600 square feet of solid White Oak hardwood flooring. The floors are a mixture of number one common and number two common. (Number 2 common has more color variations and knotting than number 1 White Oak hardwood flooring.) Our crew also sanded and hand scraped the 18 Oak stair treads in the home, to refinish them.

Our customer selected Bona White stain for his floors and stairway. We stained the White Oak floors and stairs after “popping” the wood grain with water to open them up for a deeper stain results.

Our crew began finishing these White Oak floors and stairs with two coats of Pallmann White Seal.

Then we applied a final coat of Pallmann Pure, to achieve the very low sheen floors and stairs that our client wanted.

Quarter Sawn Solid White Oak Flooring – Install and Weave In – St. Augustine

Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 enjoys working on flooring improvement projects in homes and businesses in the Northeastern Florida area. They were adding an extension on the rear of their riverfront home, and wanted to extend the quarter sawn solid White Oak flooring inside.

There was no leveling required for this job, because the wood flooring was installed directly to the subfloor. It was a nailed down installation. (We used our Woodwise White Oak test kit to verify the existing wood flooring was white oak.) Our crew started work by cutting weave in pattern into the ends of the existing White Oak flooring planks. This will create a continuous look to the pattern of the wood flooring.

After removing the cut out wood, we began weaving in the White Oak flooring planks. and installing the unfinished, solid White Oak quarter sawn select flooring by Oak Crest Lumber.

Our floor sander vacuum filled up 7 bags with sawdust while rough sanding the new quarter sawn White Oak flooring, and the finish from the old White Oak plank floor.

Our crew finished the quarter sawn White Oak flooring with three coats of tough and durable Bona Woodline satin polyurethane.

Character Grade White Oak Flooring – Install, Sand and Finish – Crescent Beach

Stained and finished character grade White Oak flooringOne home improvement that can increase the value of your home or business is replacing the carpeting that was originally installed with wood flooring. This job was a 2600 square foot install, sand and finish character grade White Oak flooring project for our Dan’s Floor Store crew. This project home was in Crescent Beach, Florida. Also we installed thirty-two, 54″ wide White Oak stair treads and stained them to match.

The species used in this project was a character grade White Oak flooring, 7 1/2″ x 9/16″.

This home is on the ocean. While working this flooring project, we also enjoyed the beautiful views of the beckoning Atlantic.

We cut the stairs in with a stair jig, which is shown in one of the following photos. Also we sanded and stained the treads to match the White Oak stair railing.

The color we used for the stain was Golden Brown DuraSeal mixed with neutral DuraSeal 50-50 mix. Then we coated the job with the Bona Mega extra mat waterborne polyurethane for the first two coats and finished the final coat with a topcoat of Bona Traffic HD extra matte.

And the homeowners agreed, this turned out to be a beautiful wood floor and stairway project.

Screen and Tung Oil Recoat Oak Floors in Ponte Vedra Beach

Dan’s Floor Store works hard to make sure our client is happy with our wood flooring services and tile and stone services. We are very pleased and thankful that a lot of our business comes from repeat customers and clients’ referrals.

Red and White Oak wood floor, sanded and refinished with Tung oilDan’s Floor Store installed these wood floors in a home in Magnolia Hammock, off Neck Road in Ponte Vedra Beach many years ago. We used a mix of Red and White Oak, 100 year old reclaimed wood by Carlisle in varied widths; 5″, 6″, and 8″. The new wood flooring was then sanded and finished natural with four coats of Tung oil.

Our clients called us back to screen and recoat their wood floor with Tung oil. Periodic refinishing is a maintenance service for quality wood floors.

 

Tung oil comes from the Tung tree, and is the only coating we know of that is impermeable to water. It gives a natural, long-lasting finish to wood floors, and is environmentally friendly.

We found some pet stains in the clients’ floor. We scraped and sanded them out, then built up that area with a few coats of Tung oil.

Next we screened (sanded) the floor. And we finished the floor with two new coats of Tung oil.

These refinished Red and White Oak wood floors look great and Tung oil will keep them looking good for many more years.

White Oak Wood Floor Refinished with a Custom Stain on Anastasia Island

Dan’s Floor Store refinishes old wood floors to look like new, or as a part of achieving a different look in a room, or both.

A client wanted their 2 1/4″ wide solid White Oak wood floor refinished with a custom stain to achieve a different look in their home on Anastasia Island in St. Augustine, Florida.

We started this project by sanding the wood flooring.

Details are important in achieving good results. When Dan’s Floor Store refinishes a wood floor we perform a step called “pulling the ends” of the wood plank floors. For this step, we hand scrape the edges of the floor where the edger sanded, to achieve a full fresh surface for the wood flooring.

To achieve the look the client wanted for their wood floor, we rubbed the floor with water to “pop” (open up) the wood grain. Popping the wood grain allows super pigmented stains to stay in the wood, rather than being pulled off when a water based finish is applied. The stain color we created for the client was a custom color; a blend of DuraSeal Classic Gray and DuraSeal Country White.

We finished the custom stained White Oak wood floor with durable Bona finishes. First our crew applied Bona Mega Clear HD which eliminates the amber tint achieved with some finishes. And then we applied a final finish coat of Bona Traffic HD.

The custom stain achieved the look that the client wanted, and they were very happy with their refinished floor.

Pegged Look White Oak Floor Install and Weave-in Deerwood Country Club

A previous client had us come install a custom weave-in to an area of their solid Finished pegged look white oak flooringwhite oak floor, and then refinish some additional wood flooring, in their charming home in the Deerwood Country Club community of Jacksonville, Florida.

This project involved not only installing new Solid White Oak plank select flooring from Shamrock Plank Flooring in random width planks (3″, 6″, and 8″ wide), but also weaving the new wood flooring into some existing flooring which was also 3 “, 6″, and 8” random widths.

The new White Oak flooring planks being installed would be enhanced with a pegged look as though they were held down with dark Walnut pegs. (The pegged look wood floor effect is achieved by pre-drilling holes near the ends of each plank, prior to their installation and then inserting walnut plugs (to simulate pegs) after the planks are installed.)

We glued and nailed the new wood flooring installation.

Dan’s Floor Store also sanded the newly installed wood floor along with all of the other existing wood flooring on first floor the home for a total of 2700 ft.² of flooring. (This refinishing did not include the wood flooring that we had installed on the second floor of this home in March.) And as we worked, a rainbow came our to brighten our day.

New Solid White Oak flooring in Atlantic Beach

5" wide solid White Oak floor planks installedFollowing one of our free consultations and estimates, Dan’s Floor Store was contracted to install new solid wood White Oak flooring in a guest house on Beach Avenue in Atlantic Beach, Florida.

The client’s guest house has a great view of the Atlantic Ocean.

First we installed a plywood subfloor, to APA (APA – The Engineered Wood Association) and NWFA (National Wood Flooring Association) standards.

Then we installed select grade, 5″ wide by 3/4″ thick solid White Oak flooring by Shamrock Plank Flooring. Wood flooring planks that are 5″ wide must be glued and nailed down, which is a bit more labor to install, but they look very elegant.

Dan’s Floor Store wood flooring work complies with NWFA standards to provide beautiful results and long lasting wood floors for our customers. For example, when installing solid wood flooring like this one, it’s important to leave room for the wood to expand and contract. That’s why we install expansion joints (which you can see in some of the photos), using nickels between the boards every 10 feet.

Our crew will be coming back to sand and stain this new solid White Oak wood floor in a few months, after the wood has become fully acclimated.

New Solid White Oak Plank Flooring in Deerwood Country Club

Following one of our free wood flooring consultations and estimates, Dan’s Floor Store was contracted to install new solid wood plank floors in a home in the gated Deerwood Country Club community in Jacksonville, Florida.

New solid White Oak select plank flooringThis project consisted of installing solid White Oak plank select floors from Shamrock Plank Flooring in three upstairs bedrooms. The clients chose random width planks for two of the rooms (3″, 6″, and 8″ wide) and 2 1/4″ wide planks in the third room, to be congruent with the width of the wood plank flooring in the hall and master bedroom.

Following after installation, we sanded the new White Oak plank flooring to level the floors and prepare them for staining and finishing.

We applied a neutral DuraSeal stain with oil base sealer, and then followed with two coats of Bona Traffic Satin for a durable, elegant finish.

White Oak flooring with Travertine stairway in Palm Valley

Dan’s Floor Store was invited to be part of a home renovation here on the Intracoastal, in the Palm Valley neighborhood of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

To help our clients achieve the modern look they wanted, we installed 1800 square feet of stylish blackish-gray flooring in their home, using 8 1/2 inch wide wire brushed White Oak planks.

We also installed the travertine that our clients wanted for their stairway, for which solid pieces of travertine were cut to fit the treads and risers of the stairway, to make the staircase complete.

As you can see, we covered the upper and intermediate landings with travertine too, creating a smooth flow from one level of the home to another.
