To get the Red Oak flooring with the look our clients wanted, we recommended 5″ wide, unfinished engineered Red Oak by Maxwell, that we would custom stain to their preference. This wood flooring is made in the USA, and has a 4mm sawn face.
First our crew removed the old tile and carpeting.
The concrete slab subfloor of the home required us to do an immense amount of leveling. A wood flooring installation requires a flat surface.
We began installing the Red Oak flooring by putting a header board at the master bedroom, where some 5″ wide flooring had previously been installed. Our crew lined the new Red Oak boards up with the existing ones, for visual continuity and harmony. We installed, then sanded all of the new wood flooring.
Next, our crew stained the new Red Oak boards with a custom blend of 3 quality Bona stains – 2 parts Cocoa ,2 parts Antique Brown, and 1 part Golden Oak. For finishing, we applied 3 coats of durable Pallmann finish – 1 coat of clear sealer, and 2 coats of semi gloss Power.

Install, Sand and Finish Red Oak Flooring – Mandarin
/in New Wood Flooring Installation /by adminThis project started with us leveling the concrete slab subfloor (as we do for all wood flooring installation jobs). Our clients selected a 3″ wide, unfinished, engineered Red Oak flooring by Maxwell. This wood flooring product is made in the USA, and will harmonize with the existing 3″ wide Red Oak flooring on the upper floor. (Which our crew will sand and stain in a few weeks, to match the color wood flooring selected for the first floor wood.) We installed the Red Oak flooring using Bostik Pro Cure adhesive. To prepare the fireplace in the center of the room for the new wood flooring, our crew undercut the bottom edge with a jamb saw equipped with a diamond blade. We measured and cut each board to fit the bumpy contour of the central fireplace with a jig saw.
After completing the flooring installation, our crew began sanding the new flooring. Our client’s selection of an engineered wood flooring was a benefit to the time frame required for this project. This is because engineered wood does not require acclimation time after installation; we can begin sanding the flooring to prepare for staining and finishing immediately.
Next we “popped the grain” of the wood with water, to achieve a deep, beautiful color stain. Our crew applied Bona Jacobean stain.
We finished this Red Oak flooring with durable Pallmann products – 1 coat of Pallmann Clear Sealer, and 2 coats of Pallmann Power finish – satin.

Sand, Stain, and Finish Wood Flooring at Matthew’s Restaurant in San Marco

The Restaurant was being closed for a week for renovations under a tight timeline, and Chef Matthew called Dan to refinish (sand, stain, and finish) the bar area Oak wood flooring.
Our crew started work at 5AM, sanding the bar floor with rough paper. Then we sanded the Oak floor with fine paper, hand scraped the corners and palm sanded all the ends to eliminate any sanding marks. Next our crew buffed the job smooth.
To achieve a deep stain, we “popped” the wood flooring grain with water applied with damp cloths.
We applied Bona Ebony stain. Our crew applied durable Pallmann products – one coat of Pallmann clear, followed by one coat of Pallmann Power ultra matte finish.
Two days later, after the bar area had been painted, we buffed down the job and put a final coat of Pallmann 98 ultra matte.

Hickory Hardwood Flooring Installation in Jacksonville Beach
/in New Wood Flooring Installation /by adminOne of our contractor associates called Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 to help with home improvements to the flooring in a 3 level condominium, located just west of the Intracoastal Bridge in the Beach Boulevard area of Jax Beach – Lighthouse Point.
First our crew removed the existing wood and carpet flooring from the second and third floors of the condo. Then we leveled those subfloors, to prepare them for our new wood flooring installation. The subfloors on all jobs done by Dan’s Floor Store must be leveled prior to flooring installation, to guarantee a strong bond to subfloor and a solid sounding floor versus a hollow floor sound! This job took 17 bags of Bostiks SL 150 Self Leveler to get the floors leveled!
With the subfloor leveled, our crew installed the hand scraped and wire brushed engineered Hickory hardwood flooring; Sunset Hills by Naturally Aged Flooring. We used Bostik Pro Cure adhesive for this 7 1/2” wide hickory hardwood flooring installation. Sand, White Wash and Finish Maple Flooring and Staircase – Marsh Landing Country Club
/in Wood Floor Refinishing, wood staircase refinishing /by adminOur clients also wanted a white wash look for these Maple floors. Maple is a lighter color specie, however the existing maple was super yellowed. This yellowing happens naturally, because Maple has the tendency to yellow with age. Fortunately, as soon as you put the sander on it and start sanding this wood flooring, it goes back to a super light color!

We really like our clients’ concept for these Maple floors. There is a beautiful look to Maple with the white washed look!
Our crew sanded and hand scraped the edges of the Maple flooring.
Our clients also wanted their staircase to have this white washed look. So we sanded and hand scraped the edges of the 25 stairs and risers, and the handrail.
We applied Bona NordicSeal to give the Maple floors and stairway the white washed look. Then we buffed down those first two coats. Our crew finished the Maple floor with two coats of Pallmann Power Ultra Matte. The stair rail was Brazilian Cherry wood, and we coated with the white washing agent many times (five coats) to get it light and non reddish!

Install, Screen and Coat Red Oak Flooring – Hampton Glen

These prior clients wanted us to install some Red Oak flooring in their master bedroom, and screen and coat the Red Oak flooring we had previously sanded and finished for them.
Our crew removed 250 square feet of existing carpeting, then leveled the concrete slab floor using Bostik SL-150 Self Leveling underlayment. And then we installed the 2 1/4″ wide unfinished, plain sawn / slice cut, engineered Red Oak flooring by Maxwell (Townsend Additions line) using Bostik Pro Cure adhesive.
Our crew sanded the new Red Oak flooring, then finished it with durable Pallmann products one coat of Pallmann Pall-X Color, color sealer. We followed up with 2 coats of Pallmann Pall-X Power finish water borne polyurethane, in ultra matte.
Screen and Coat is a good maintenance procedure to protect your wood floors. When we “screen and coat” wood flooring, we use a buffer and a mesh screen covered with an abrasive, instead of regular sand paper discs. Screening provides lighter abrasion to the floor finish, providing a good roughness that helps the new finish coat of polyurethane adhere properly. We recommend screening and coating wood floors that get normal use on a 5 year cycle, to restore the finish and protect the wood flooring. We screened and coated 1,200 square feet of the plain sawn / slice cut Red Oak flooring with Walnut inlays in this home. Our crew applied water based polyurethane finish; Pallmann‘s Pall-X Power finish water borne polyurethane.

Sand, Stain and Finish White Oak Flooring – North Vilano Beach
/in match stain, sand and finish wood flooring /by adminFor this home improvement project, our Dan’s Floor Store crew was called to a home in North Vilano Beach. The homeowners wanted their wire brushed 5″ White Oak flooring stained to match the look of their wooden stairs treads. We can do that!
After closing off the portion of the home where we would be working on their floors with ZipWall Dust Barrier System, we sanded and hand edged the White Oak flooring down to bare wood.
Our crew applied a light spray of water to “pop” the White Oak wood grain. Then we selected and applied a 50/50 combination of Bona stains; Bark and Red Mahogany to achieve the matching look on the floors.
We finished the match stained wood floors with durable Pallmann products – Pall-X Color, color sealer, followed by 2 coats of Pallmann Pall-X Power Finish, satin water borne polyurethane.

Sand and Finish Heart Pine Flooring Repair – St. Augustine, FL
/in sand and finish wood flooring /by adminThe owner of a home on the Intracoastal Waterway in St. Augustine had some water damage to the Heart Pine flooring in his kitchen and living room areas.
The homeowner replaced the damaged Heart Pine wood flooring himself. And then he was referred (by one of our prior clients) to Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 to sand and finish his wood floors.
Our crew sanded the old flooring and new flooring together. To begin, we had to make several angle cuts with rough sandpaper, due to the tough old finish on the wood floors. Next our crew sanded the floors with fine sand paper, buffed the floors, and then hand scraped all the corners.
We sealed the floor with Bona DriFast Sealer. Our crew buffed the floors between the first and second coats of Sealer.
Then we finished the Heart Pine flooring with 2 coats of Bona Woodline satin oil-modified polyurethane.

Tile Bathroom Remodel in Queen’s Harbor
/in New Tile Installation /by adminFirst our crew “demo’d” (ripped out) the water damaged bathroom wall board. After the plumbing was fixed, we hung new cement backer boards. Cement backer boards are resistant to mold growth and damage from moisture, making them great tile underlayment for wet areas like bathrooms and kitchens. And then our crew applied waterproofing to the walls (the pink and yellow areas on the bare HardieBacker in some of the photos).
Our clients selected and provided the porcelain tile, and stone and glass for the mosaic for this project. (Dan’s Floor Store sells and can supply the tile, stone and glass for projects, too.) We started setting the 24″ by 24″ porcelain tile on the shower walls with the help of temporary horizontal boards. (These temporary boards hold the tiles in position until the adhesive set up.) Our crew added two “racing stripes” in glass and stone mosaic, with pencil stone borders. We also added glass and stone details in two wall inserts (handy for soap, shampoo bottles, etc.).
Then we mudset the 24″ by 24″ porcelain floor tiles, adding an elaborate basket weave-type inlay of stone. Our crew centered the stone inlay to the tub.
