Engineered Maple Flooring Replacing Tile – Palencia

Palencia Golf and Country Club community homeowners called Dan’s Floor Store for our free consultation and estimate. They wanted to replace 1600 square feet of tile flooring that had been originally installed in their home with wood flooring. Home improvements can often improve the value of a home, as well as make it more enjoyable for the owners.

Maple flooring installedOur clients chose an engineered maple flooring made by Mirage; 6 1/4″ X 1/2″called Maple Peppermint, it has a grey color and is a very beautiful flooring.

Mirage is one of the best brands of engineered wood flooring in the industry. It is FSC certified wood flooring. The FSC stamp is the hardest stamp to get on wood flooring, because FSC is the Forestry Stewardship Council. That means that all of the wood comprised in the Mirage engineering wood flooring is eco sound and compliant to the highest standards.

Our crew had a lot of floor tile to remove. We put plastic film over cabinets and appliances, to protect them during tile removal.

Then we leveled the concrete slab sub floor. A level surface helps wood flooring last longer.

After leveling the slab we also had to seal the concrete with Bostik‘s MVP (Moisture Vapor Protection) prior to installation. Sealer was required because the slab had tile put on it before it was fully cured. Not letting the concrete slab cure before installing tile traps the moisture between slab and tile. Dan’s Floor Store understands how this trapped moisture can penetrate and damage new wood flooring. It is our practice to check every concrete slab for trapped moisture prior to installation.

With the sub floor leveled, the installation of the engineered maple flooring progressed smoothly.

Beachy Look White Oak Flooring Installation – St. Augustine

Dan’s Floor Store was called by a previous client living in Davis Shores in St. Augustine, Florida to install some new wood flooring. We had refinished his wood floors, sanding and staining them during our prior visit. Then Hurricane Matthew came through and the floors in his home ended up under 17 inches of water!

His old flooring had to be removed along with the subfloor, drywall, doors and baseboards. All are new because of the hurricane’s water damage.

Beachy look White Oak flooring being installedFor his new wood flooring , our client selected an engineered wood flooring product made by Real Wood Floors, the Vintage Loft collection, color name Foundry.

  • These are 8 1/2inches wide by 5/8inches thick random length planks, up to 7 feet long with 80 percent of lengths to be long boards.
  • It also boasts a 4mm top and has a distinctive look with lines against the grain to add to the already wire brushed texture on this White Oak flooring.

Dan’s Floor Store crew prepared the new plywood subfloor by edging down the seams of the plywood sheets. The edged seams makes it possible for the new wood flooring to lay flat across subfloor. You can see the edged subfloor sheets in in some of the project photos.

We used Bostik‘s GreenForce adhesive, a Zero VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) adhesive, for this job.

Dan’s Floor Store uses special flooring straps to hold these White Oak wood planks together during installation, due to the width of the planks.

The White Oak wood flooring in the Foundry color shows shades of grey, silver, and black, to exemplify a beachy modern flooring look.

Oak Hardwood Flooring Installation in St. Augustine

Oak hardwood flooring installed (detail)This client selected 9/16″ thick by 4 3/4″ wide engineered Oak Hardwood flooring in the matted style of the Urban Floor Columbus collection for their condo in the Villages of Vilano in St. Augustine. This Oak wood flooring look is redefining the relaxed, beachy look with taupy gray colors.

First we cleaned and leveled the subfloor. You can see that there was a lot of leveling for this wood floor installation. Leveling the subfloor is important to protect the wood flooring from flexing damage after installation.

Then we installed the new Oak wood flooring, using Bostik Vapor-Lock adhesive, which provides moisture control and sound reduction qualities in addition to holding the wood flooring planks in place. We selected the Bostik Vapor Lock adhesive for this wood floor installation because sound reduction is a good quality to add in a condo.

Our client was excited and happy when they saw how nice this new Oak wood floor looked. And Dan’s Floor Store always likes to have happy clients.

Install Sand and Finish White Oak Wood Flooring in Ponte Vedra Beach

During one of our free consultations about wood flooring for a home in Ponte Vedra Beach, the homeowners shared that they really liked White Oak flooring with a deep, natural tone.

We can do that! We found them some beautiful 5/8″thick x 4″ wide, unfinished engineered White Oak Premium grade wood flooring, made by Shamrock Plank Flooring.

First we leveled the subfloor.

We installed the unfinished engineered White Oak Premium grade wood flooring with Bostik Greenforce adhesive. We used wood flooring straps to hold the wood planks together during installation.

Dan’s Floor Store also installed matching solid White Oak Select stair treads. This photo shows the stairway prior to our installation of the new treads.

Coastal Look European White Oak Wood Flooring Installation in PVB

Dan’s Floor Store was contacted by a homeowner in Turtle Shores, in south Ponte Vedra Beach, for one of our free flooring consultations and estimates.

The carpeting on her floor was installed in the 1980s, so it was ready for replacement. Most standard, contractor grade carpeting that is installed in new construction homes is only designed to last for 3 or 4 years before it begins to deteriorate and becomes harder to clean. She also wanted the tile flooring in her foyer replaced with wood flooring. We would install the new wood flooring on 900 square foot of her home.

She selected 1/2″thick by 7 1/4″ wide LM flooring engineered European White Oak wood flooring from the Saint Laurent collection with the Privas finish – a whitish grayish color stain for a very coastal and beachy look.

This project began with removing the client’s furniture from the selected areas of her home.

We removed the old carpeting and tile, then we prepared and leveled the plywood subfloor.

Then we installed new coastal look European White Oak wood flooring.

New White Oak Flooring in Julington Creek

Owners of a charming home in Julington Creek in Jacksonville, Florida wanted to upgrade the look and value of their home by installing new wood flooring to cover 800 square feet of the floors in their home.

Following one of our free Dan’s Floor Store consultations, the home owners chose the 8 1/2 inch wide by 5/8 inch thick wire brushed engineered White Oak flooring, with a UV oil topcoat: Vintage Loft by Real Wood Floors.

  • A UV oil finish makes for an attractive furniture-type finish. The oil actually penetrates the wood’s surface and provides rich appearance.

First we remove the old carpet and carpet padding, and clean the slab subfloor.

This photo shows some of the thorough and often extensive subfloor leveling which Dan’s Floor Store must perform as part of every single job. The wood flooring must lay perfectly flat to avoid developing problems with the new wood floor after installation.

New Wood Floors for a Sawgrass Country Club home

First we had to remove the existing carpet, padding, and tile from the floors. Then we cleaned the each of the floors to prepare for wood plank installation.

White Oak with White Stain – Plantation Country Club

Installed wire brushed engineered white oak floor with white stainDuring one of our Dan’s Floor Store free consultations, a couple living in the Plantation Country Club community in Ponte Vedra, Florida asked us to help give their home a more beachy style.

We suggested wire brushed 7 1/2′ wide White Oak engineered wood flooring from LW Flooring with a white stain for the 3 bedrooms they were wanting to renovate, which has been a popular look over the last few years for a “beach house look” in local Florida homes.

The couple liked the look and asked us to install the new flooring in 3 of their bedrooms, amounting to nearly 1000 square feet of White Oak engineered wood flooring to be installed and stained.

And here is the White Oak engineered wood flooring installed. We “popped” the grain of the new wood flooring with water, to achieve better penetration of the white stain, for a better visual effect.

Home Improvements in Stages – New Engineered Wood Flooring in Mandarin

About two years ago, we installed some new wood flooring in a home in Mandarin. Our clients enjoyed their wood floors, and this year invited us back to install engineered wood flooring in two more rooms.

Sometimes making home improvements such as adding wood flooring, or tile projects, or even refinishing an existing wood floor, in stages, over time, makes more sense for clients.

Many of our clients have been able to enjoy completing more upgrades to their homes by accomplishing them in stages, which allows them to stay within their household budgets.

This time the new engineered wood flooring installation project presented more opportunities for use of our flooring skills and experience:

  • The two rooms having new engineered wood flooring installed were not connected. There is a bathroom with a tiled floor between the two rooms getting new wood flooring.
  • The hallway between the project rooms was already finished in wood flooring.  To create a seamless look in the wood floors, we did what we refer to as a weave-in repair with the wood planks at each of the doorways.
  • Getting a level surface for installing the new wood flooring on this project was also interesting, because there were transitions from concrete subfloors to plywood subfloors in this part of the home.

The new wood flooring is Forest Accents‘ Timeless Textures line, in Maple Tawny, and it looks great in our clients’ home, and we are happy to help them reach their home improvement goals.

Had to replace tile on the face of the riser of this step, to match the adjacent wood flooring.

New Engineered Wood Flooring with Stairs

New Santos Mahogany Engineered Wood Flooring, installed in a home in Jacksonville BeachA client in Jacksonville Beach contracted Dan’s Floor Store to replace the old, contractor grade carpeting in several rooms of their home with beautiful Santos Mahogany engineered wood flooring by Armstrong.

  • Please Note: As of 2023, hardwood flooring is no longer provided by Armstrong.

Most standard, contractor grade carpeting installed in new construction homes is only designed to last for 3 or 4 years before it begins to deteriorate and becomes harder to clean.

Also, carpeting tends to trap pollen and other allergens, and if anyone living in the home or working in the business office has allergies, this can cause problems year around.

These are reasons why Dan’s Floor Store recommends installing hard surface flooring, such as wood flooring, tile, or stone in homes and offices.

As you can see in these photos, this flooring project was a little different than most because it included installing the new wood flooring on the stair well landing and refinishing treads on the stairs to match, in this two story home.
