After this homeowner had closed on his new home in the Shearwater community, near St. Augustine, Florida, he contracted Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303 for a flooring and stairway improvement project.
Our client wanted FSC certified White Oak flooring installed in his home in several rooms, in place of the carpeting, which had also been installed on the stairway. And he wanted Oak stair treads on his staircase, match stained for the same look as the new wood flooring. We can do that!
Contractor grade carpeting usually lasts several years and then begins to break down. When the carpeting breaks down, it retains more dirt and pollen, and little pieces of fiber from the carpet break off and go into the air in the home as lint. (And nobody needs more lint in their home!)
We began this project by removing 10,000 square feet of carpeting from the home, from spaces including 3 bedrooms, a loft living room, and the stairway and landing.
Our client had selected FSC certified, 7″ wide, oil finished White Oak flooring, Brushed Patina, Root by Tesoro. An FSC certification ensures that products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits.
After leveling the subfloors, we applied Bostik’s Green Force zero VOC adhesive for installing the White Oak flooring planks.
Creating a matching stain for the solid White Oak stair treads took some experimenting. Dan’s Floor Store is experienced in match staining wood. Matching the look with stain is sometimes more challenging. Even though this was a hard wood flooring color to mimic, by mixing different ones, Dan was able to create a matching stain in about 10 minutes! We are very proud of the stain match!
For this project, we used Ribio Monocoat, a No VOC oil coating. The final combination of Bourbon, Dark Oak , Oyster, Ash Grey, and Stone Ribio Monocoat stain colors resulted in an impeccable visual match for the Oak stair treads to the newly installed White Oak flooring.

Oak Look Luxury Vinyl Plank Installation in Ponte Vedra Beach

Our crew began this project by ripping out the old carpet, wood flooring, tile, and baseboards.
Next we leveled the concrete slab subfloor to prepare it for the luxury vinyl plank installation.
We set up our on-site shop on the paver driveway.
Next our crew installed the Oak Look vinyl plank flooring. The game room for the pool table was a converted/enclosed patio that had been poured a little higher than the main subfloor in the home. We got creative with the flooring to get the rooms to line up for safety and visual appeal. Sand, Stain and Finish Oak Staircase – Nocatee
/in wood staircase refinishing /by adminOne of the local realtors we had worked with previously referred their client to Dan’s Floor Store 904.887.8303. (Referrals are always appreciated!) The client knew exactly what she wanted for her new home – gray stair treads with white risers.
Our client was just moving to this area, so we did all of our communication about this project via phone calls and photos. (Dan sent her photos of the job, as it was progressing, too.)
First we removed the old carpet from the stairway in her new home.
We sanded down the treads and both rails of the Oak staircase, to stain all of the pieces to the gray that our client wanted. Our crew applied quality Bona gray stain to get the look our client wanted for her staircase. We finished the stair treads and rails with durable Pallmann Pall-X Power ultra matte finish.
Our crew pre-stains and finishes treads prior to installing them to limit any stain getting on the skirt boards (side boards) and risers.
We aligned and installed the white risers on the stair frame.
Next our crew began installing the gray stained Oak stair treads and rails. We also painted the newel post white for our client.

Engineered 5 Inch White Oak Flooring Installation – Mandarin

Our client selected engineered, 5″ wide White Oak flooring, from the Diamonds Forever collection by UA Floors.
First our crew removed the old wooden flooring.
Then we did a massive amount of leveling on the concrete slab subfloor, to properly prepare it for the new 5″ wide White Oak flooring.
Time to install the new wood flooring! We installed all of the 5″ wide White Oak flooring running front to back in the home. This was the opposite direction that the wood flooring had been installed prior. We used Bostik Green Force adhesive for this job.
Before we started this job, our crew moved all of the client’s furniture out, and then replaced it after. And we installed all new shoe molding with the new White Oak flooring. Needless to say, our customer was thrilled with his new White Oak floors, and he also gave us a great Google review!

Refinishing Red Oak Flooring – Jacksonville, FL Northside

Brazilian Cherry Staircase Installation – Julington Creek

And these clients wanted Brazilian Cherry stair treads, match stained to the color of their existing wood flooring. We can do that!
We created a match stain for the treads with a 50-50 ratio of Natural and Red mahogany stains by Bona. Our crew pre-finishes the stair treads before installation, so we only stain the treads. Much more efficient!
After staining the Brazilian Cherry stair treads, we finished them with three coats of Pallmann Power Semi-gloss, to mimic the semi-gloss finish on the wood flooring. Then we installed the new risers and the match stained Brazilian Cherry treads.
Almost needless to say, after seeing their new Brazilian Cherry staircase, our customers were very happy with the outcome! And Dan’s Floor Store always likes to have happy clients!

Engineered White Oak Hardwood Flooring Installation – Hammock Beach FL

This flooring is made by Sawgrass Hills, in the color named Malaga. Our crew did quite a bit of a leveling of the concrete slab subfloor, as in all jobs. We prepare the substrate so that the flooring which we install lays level across it. A leveled subfloor means there will be no hollow spots under your new flooring. Next our crew installed the White Oak flooring using Bostik Green Force Adhesive and Moisture Control Membrane.
We covered the stair frame with the same White Oak flooring and stair nosing, for a matching look. The stair treads that our crew made feature mitered returns for a nice, finished look.

Sand, Paint, Finish Wooden Floors – South St. Augustine Beach

This remodeling project took place in a home on Atlantic View in South St. Augustine Beach, Florida. The builder envisioned extending the wood flooring with our crew doing a lot of weave-in work, to create a continuous, solid wood floor. And then paint the wooden floors white.
After doing the weave-in wood flooring extension, we sanded the wood floors and hand scraped the edges.
As part of this job, our crew milled our own transition strips out of the solid wood.
After sanding these floors, we applied two coats of Benjamin Moore white paint designed for floors.
The next day, we applied the applied two coats of Pallmann waterborne polyurethane products – Pall-X Clear Sealer – and then Pall-X Power Finish. Then our crew buffed down these first two coats of polyurethane finish, and finished this job with a final coat of Pallmann Gold. Pallmann Gold is a non-ambering, clear, 2 part waterborne polyurethane finish.
We also sanded, painted, and finished the stairway in this home to match the wood floors (but missed getting photos).
The contractor and his clients told us the look that we achieved with these white painted wooden floors and stairway was just what they wanted! And Dan’s Floor Store always likes to have happy customers!

Sand, Stain, Finish Red Oak Flooring in Matanzas Inlet

Here are some photos of the way their Red Oak floors looked before we started.
Our crew started this project by sanding 1,500 square feet of Red Oak flooring to remove the old finish. We used our big Lagler-Hummel belt sander. for the main areas. Then our crew used edge sanders and hand scraped the edges of the wood flooring.
To get better visual results with the wood stain, we “popped” the grain of the wood flooring with a little water. Popping raises the grain of the wood to allow the stain to penetrate deeper in the wood than the stain would, if applied straight out of the can.
In order to get the look our clients wanted, our crew mixed three parts Provincial to one part Neutral/Natural Bona wood stains.
To finish this Red Oak flooring, we applied the applied two coats of durable Pallmann products – Pall-X Clear Sealer and then Pall-X Power Finish. Then we buffed down these first two coats of polyurethane finish, and finished this job with a final coat of Pallmann Gold. The Pallmann Gold top coat is a non-ambering, clear, 2 part waterborne polyurethane finish.
We followed the same sequence – sanding, staining, and refinishing – on the stair treads. We achieved a nice matching look with the wood.

Heart Pine Plank Flooring – Sand and Finish – Springfield

This is about the 10th job we have done for this client. It’s always nice when a prior client appreciates your work, and calls you with a new job!
This flooring project took place in downtown Jacksonville, Florida, in the historic Springfield neighborhood.
The home was built in the 1930s, and has existing Heart Pine plank flooring. Our client contracted us to sand and finish these old wooden floors.
Pre-Refinishing.
Our crew sanded the Heart Pine plank flooring, and hand scraped the edges.
Sanding.
Next we applied 1 coat of Bona dri-fast Sealer.
And then we finished these old Heart Pine floors with 2 coats of Bona Woodline satin oil-modified polyurethane.
Between application of the Bona finish coats, we screened these Heart Pine floors for proper bonding and to give the smoothest possible results.
When we screen wood flooring, we use a buffer and a mesh screen covered with an abrasive, instead of regular sand paper discs. Screening provides lighter abrasion to the floor finish, providing a good roughness that helps the new finish coat of polyurethane adhere properly.
Refinishing.
