Dan’s Floor Store works hard on each flooring project to provide results that make our clients happy. And we appreciate when our happy clients recommend us to their friends and family, and when they call us back to do a new wood, tile or stone flooring project in their home, office, or commercial property.
Last year we installed engineered white stained White Oak wood flooring in several rooms of this client’s home in the Plantation Country Club community in Ponte Vedra Beach to achieve a beach house look.
Our clients liked the beachy look of that flooring so much they called us to help renovate some more rooms in their home, removing some existing tile flooring and replacing the tile with new wood flooring.
This year our clients asked that we extend the beach house look flooring through their home, with 7 1/2″ wide, wire brushed, engineered European White Oak wood flooring with white stain in the grain from the LW Flooring Emilia collection.
First we removed the existing tile from the floors to be covered with White Oak wood flooring.
This video clip shows how a floor tile removal machine makes it faster and easier to remove existing floor tiles with minimal damage to the subfloor surface.
Next we leveled the concrete subfloor. Dan’s Floor Store has made it a practice of leveling subfloors prior to all wood floor installations to help make the client’s new wood flooring last longer. Uneven subfloors can cause damage to new wood flooring, so we make sure we start installing the new wood floor on a level surface.
We use special flooring straps to hold these white stained White Oak wood planks together during installation, due to the width of the planks.
The engineered white stained White Oak wood flooring that we installed gives the floors a nice beachy look that the clients like and we do, too.
Our clients enjoy sitting out in the back yard of their home, relaxing with the pleasant view of the peaceful waters of the pond.

Refinishing Heart Pine Wood Flooring in Jacksonville Beach
/in Wood Floor Refinishing /by adminDan’s Floor Store professionally installs, repairs, and refinishes wood floors for residential and commercial clients in the Jacksonville area of northeastern Florida, including the Beaches, up to Amelia Island and down to St. Augustine.
This was a commercial wood floor refinishing project. We were contracted to refinish the old solid heart pine wood floors in the Playgarden; a place for pre-schoolers and kindergarteners to explore, grow, and create in south Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Their solid heart pine wood floors were scuffed and worn from the beach sand and the traffic of little shoes; ready for refinishing.
Heart Pine is the heartwood of the long leaf pine tree, and is very hard and strong, with beautiful coloring and figure patterns.
First we sanded the floors. You can start to see the charming character of these solid heart pine wood floors reappear after the first pass of our sander on the flooring.
After sanding the floors, we applied Bona IntenseSeal to develop the deep, natural tone, pigmentation, and color characteristics of the Heart Pine wood.
Then we finished the floors with two coats of Bona Mega Clear HD Satin, which eliminates the amber tint that occurs with some finishes, and increases the physical performance of these final layers of finish.
Our clients at the Playgarden were delighted with the refreshed look of their old wood floors, and we always like to have happy clients.

White Oak Wood Floor Refinished with a Custom Stain on Anastasia Island
/in Wood Floor Refinishing /by adminDan’s Floor Store refinishes old wood floors to look like new, or as a part of achieving a different look in a room, or both.
A client wanted their 2 1/4″ wide solid White Oak wood floor refinished with a custom stain to achieve a different look in their home on Anastasia Island in St. Augustine, Florida.
We started this project by sanding the wood flooring.
Details are important in achieving good results. When Dan’s Floor Store refinishes a wood floor we perform a step called “pulling the ends” of the wood plank floors. For this step, we hand scrape the edges of the floor where the edger sanded, to achieve a full fresh surface for the wood flooring.
To achieve the look the client wanted for their wood floor, we rubbed the floor with water to “pop” (open up) the wood grain. Popping the wood grain allows super pigmented stains to stay in the wood, rather than being pulled off when a water based finish is applied. The stain color we created for the client was a custom color; a blend of DuraSeal Classic Gray and DuraSeal Country White.
We finished the custom stained White Oak wood floor with durable Bona finishes. First our crew applied Bona Mega Clear HD which eliminates the amber tint achieved with some finishes. And then we applied a final finish coat of Bona Traffic HD.
The custom stain achieved the look that the client wanted, and they were very happy with their refinished floor.

Hickory Hardwood Flooring Installation – Plantation Oaks in Ponte Vedra Beach
/in New Wood Flooring Installation /by adminDan’s Floor Store works to make every wood flooring installation a good experience. Clients that are pleased with our work often recommend us to friends and family.
This wood flooring project was the result of a recommendation from one of the local real estate agents who often recommends Dan’s Floor Store to their clients who want to improve the home that they are considering with wood or tile floors, or professionally refinishing the old, existing wood flooring.
The couple wanted 1350 square feet of existing wood and tile flooring in the home removed, and new wood flooring installed. We can do that!
The couple picked 1/2″ by 7 1/2″ wide planks of engineered Hickory hardwood flooring, in a style called Monticello Hearthsone, by Max Woods.
We stacked the boxes of flooring planks to the side of the work area, and set up a temporary work shop on the back patio of the home. Special flooring straps are used to hold these wood planks together during installation, due to the width of the planks.
The installed Hickory hardwood flooring look excellent and the homeowners were very happy.

Hand Scraped Birch Wood Flooring Installation – Odom’s Mill
/in New Wood Flooring Installation /by adminOur Dan’s Floor Store crew works hard to do a good job on our residential and commercial flooring projects for each of our clients. Whether we are installing a new wood floor, repairing or refinishing a wood floor, or installing tile or stone, we work with our clients to make the project a good experience for them. It just makes good sense to treat others the way you want to be treated.
And we are thankful that many times our clients show their appreciation for our work on their flooring project by calling Dan’s Floor Store when they have another wood or tile flooring project. Many prior clients also recommend us to their friends and families.
A year or so ago, a couple who own a charming home in the Odom’s Mill community of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida contracted us to install wood flooring in rooms covering about 1250 square feet of their home. They said they really loved their new wood floors.
Recently they called on us to install some pre-finished, hand scraped Birch wood flooring that they had purchased to match their existing wood floors. This new project covered the floors in two more bedrooms of their charming home, and further increases the value of their home.
Dan’s Floor Store sells a wide variety of name brand wood flooring and tile, samples of which are on display in our Ponte Vedra Showroom. And, just like on this project, we will also install wood flooring that a client has purchased on their own.
When this project started, both bedroom floors were covered with carpet. We removed the carpet and leveled the concrete subfloor, so the wooden flooring would not be damaged by unevenness in the concrete surface.
You can see in these photos how the hand scraped Birch wood flooring that our clients picked looks great and matched beautifully with their existing wood flooring that we had previously installed.
Everyone was pleased with how good the newly installed wood flooring looks.

Our client also wanted some wood-look floor tiles installed in an entry way in their home.
Dan’s Floor Store installed, sanded, hand scraped, and stained the new, solid Red Oak stair treads to match the shade of the existing Red Oak flooring. Then we coated the treads with three coats of Bona Traffic finish.

Wood Floor Weave-in and Install at the King and Bear
/in New Wood Flooring Installation, wood floor weave-in /by adminThis Dan’s Floor Store wood floor weave-in and install project took place in a home at the King and Bear community – part of the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida.
The client wanted to replace the tile floors in the hallways, kitchen, and dining room with wood flooring.
And they wanted the new wood flooring to appear as a continuation of the existing wood flooring that had been previously installed in their home.
First the tile and thinset used to adhere the tiles to the concrete subfloor had to be removed, and the entire area to be covered in wood flooring had be be leveled.
To match the existing wood flooring, we found a beautiful engineered hand scraped Birch wood flooring, 5″ x 3/8″ planks from the Rucsello collection by Bella Cera.
To blend the new wood flooring in with the existing wood flooring, we wove in ten boards, and went on to extend the new wood flooring throughout all the hallways, in the kitchen, and in the dining room of the home.
The weave-in and installation turned out beautifully, and our client was very pleased. In all, we installed 600 square feet of wood flooring.

Refinishing Old Wood Floors and Stairs in Historic Springfield
/in Wood Floor Refinishing, wood staircase refinishing /by adminRefinishing old wood floors to their earlier elegance always gives a little more happiness to the Dan’s Floor Store crew when we are working with historically significant homes. We are helping to preserve our Country’s architectural history.
Dan’s Floor store has restored old wood floors in homes in historic St. Augustine, and for this project, we were refinishing wood floors in the historic Springfield community of Jacksonville, Florida.
Actually, the Springfield Historic District is a neighborhood located to the north of downtown Jacksonville. Established in 1869, Springfield is one of only three federally designated historic districts in Jacksonville, the other historic districts being Riverside/Avondale and Old Ortega.
Dan’s Floor Store refinished old face nailed solid Quarter Sawn solid White Oak wood floors (downstairs) and solid Heart Pine wood floors (upstairs).
Here are some photos of the condition of these old wood floors and stairs when we arrived at the client’s home.
We used the buffer before coating and in between coats of finish to abrade the wood flooring for proper bonding. Stair treads need to be edged twice, scraped and then palm sanded prior to coating.
Here you can see some edger work on Quarter Sawn White Oak wood flooring in the kitchen. We use the radiator edger to get under cabinets, back to the toe kicks.
And these photos show the refinished wood floors. We took some of the photos with the same views as we took the “before” photos above, so you can see how good these restored floors look now.

Pegged Look White Oak Floor Install and Weave-in Deerwood Country Club
/in New Wood Flooring Installation, Wood Floor Refinishing, Wood Floor Repair /by adminA previous client had us come install a custom weave-in to an area of their solid white oak floor, and then refinish some additional wood flooring, in their charming home in the Deerwood Country Club community of Jacksonville, Florida.
This project involved not only installing new Solid White Oak plank select flooring from Shamrock Plank Flooring in random width planks (3″, 6″, and 8″ wide), but also weaving the new wood flooring into some existing flooring which was also 3 “, 6″, and 8” random widths.
The new White Oak flooring planks being installed would be enhanced with a pegged look as though they were held down with dark Walnut pegs. (The pegged look wood floor effect is achieved by pre-drilling holes near the ends of each plank, prior to their installation and then inserting walnut plugs (to simulate pegs) after the planks are installed.)
We glued and nailed the new wood flooring installation.
Dan’s Floor Store also sanded the newly installed wood floor along with all of the other existing wood flooring on first floor the home for a total of 2700 ft.² of flooring. (This refinishing did not include the wood flooring that we had installed on the second floor of this home in March.) And as we worked, a rainbow came our to brighten our day.
Dan’s Floor Store finished the new wood flooring with Bona flooring products:
